Wow, what a setback!

We started this remodeling project that was supposed to take about 3 months, and now here it is SEVEN months later and we're just now wrapping it up. It proved to be a huge distraction on our lives! And in the midst of it all, I was dealing with a serious back problem with agonizing pain throughout it all! I just had back surgery last week, and am recovering from that now. SOON, I'll get this idea of thismoment.org going again! I am sorry for the delays!

We can make "plans" but life has a way of happening regardless of our best plans. :-)

Moving Forward! Step by step!!

The response to this idea has been both exciting and heartwarming! I sent out another round of emails to various people whom I have been talking with about this idea, and offering opportunities for them to get involved in whatever way might best use their gifts and experience.

I was talking with someone today about people who hear about this idea. Many immediately "get it", and some may not yet really understand. I am actually encouraged by both types of responses, in different ways.

1) I am encouraged by the large number of people who understand the value of this, just when I explain the idea to them.

2) When I hear of people who have a hard time imagining ThisMoment.org and the gift that it offers, I see it as an opportunity, actually, to really make a difference in people's lives. In this culture where we uplift success, and beauty, and health, and fitness, and fashion, we avoid things like death, illness, pain, and hardship. What I hope to communicate through this is that there is another type of beauty in life, that is deeper and far more meaningful than the superfical "beauty" this world embraces. So ThisMoment.org is actually a gift for those who can't imagine this idea of photographing people who are dealing with life threatening illness or are under Hospice care, because perhaps some day they will start to understand. I guess I had to go through the death of my own Mom to understand. We look at death as such a sad thing. What is even sadder is to not embrace life, while our loved ones are still alive. And the saddest thing is to not be there for them, through that time. All I can say is thank God for Hospice and the people who make these hard times a little easier.

Spreading the word

I began spreading the word a bit about ThisMoment.org. I sent an email about the new ThisMoment.org website to a variety of people I have already met with about the concept. Already the interest is spreading!

I'm not really in any rush to rapidly get the word out though. We can't move too quickly though. What we need are some individuals who are willing to help brainstorm and build a viable strategy for taking this to the next level.

I have the website www.thismoment.org set up now.

This blog is a means of opening up discussions about this idea as it develops, and to share the status on progress.

Mission:
Provide free portrait photography for this moment in your life, if you are dealing with a life-threatening illness or are in Hospice care.

Vision:
Grow this concept into a national nonprofit organization, networking photographers from across the United States, to provide these free services to qualified individuals. The idea would be for photographers to donate the photography, and this organization to serve as a means of overseeing this program and connecting volunteer photographers to candidates for this free service.
